Pre-Operative Care

Pre-Op Evaluation

Your pre-operative evaluation is an important step in ensuring your anesthesia experience is safe, smooth, and tailored specifically to you. Here is what to expect and how to prepare.

What Happens During Your Evaluation

Once scheduled by your surgeon for a procedure, your anesthesia provider will schedule a phone call with you to review your medical history, medication list and important details.

Medical History Review

Your anesthesia provider will conduct a thorough review of your health history, including past surgeries, anesthesia experiences, current medications, and allergies.

Physical Assessment

A brief physical assessment is performed on the day of your procedure to evaluate your airway, heart and lung sounds, and overall physical status to determine the safest anesthesia approach.

Anesthesia Plan

Based on your evaluation, your provider will develop an individualized anesthesia plan tailored specifically to your health profile and the nature of your dental procedure.

Patient Education

Your provider will explain the planned anesthesia technique, what to expect before, during, and after, and answer any questions you or your family may have.

Primary Care Provider Clearance

If indicated by your medical history, we may request clearance from your primary care physician to ensure optimal safety for your procedure.

Health History to Disclose

Please be prepared to share the following with your anesthesia provider. Complete and accurate information ensures the safest care.

Current medications, vitamins, and supplements

Known allergies to medications, latex, or foods
